Face Manipulation

This image is a critique of the idea that there is a “normal,” cultural standards of what one “should” be, “should” look like, “should” act like, etc. People who deviate from the “norm” tend to be marginalized for being “abnormal.” By making myself look weird, funky, and slightly creepy, I contend that everyone is weird in some way because nobody perfectly fits the ideal human model.  Also, the distorted features represent the fact that expectations along with representations of “the self” are more often than not unrealistic. This piece is ultimately about acknowledging and embracing one’s own as well as other peoples’ differences.
